PULLMAN, Wash.—Idaho women's tennis battled to the very end with cross-border rival Washington State on Sunday. The Vandals were unable to get a win in the final three matches, falling 5-2.

Idaho (6-4, 4-0 BSC) tied the match at 2-2 at the open of singles play. Sophomore Marianna Petrei picked up her seventh win of the season. She dispatched of WSU's Barboa Michalkova, 6-3, 6-1, to claim Idaho's first point. Maria Tavares claimed Idaho's second win at No. 4. She dropped the first set 6-4, bouncing back to win the next two sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Washington State broke the tie, going up 3-2 with a win from Meilsa Ates on the No. 5 court. Lucia Badillos went toe-to-toe with Guzal Yusupova on the No. 2 court. Yusupova picked up a 6-1 decision in the first set. Badillos countered with a 7-6 win in the second, forcing a third set. Badillos kept it close in the third set, forcing a tiebreaker. Yusupova won all seven points in the tiebreaker to take the win, clinching the match for Washington State.

Lejla Colic wrapped up singles play with a 6-1, 7-5 win over freshman Shion Watabe at No. 6.

Washington State opened the afternoon with the doubles point. The Cougars scored wins at No. 1 and No. 3. The No. 2 match was unfinished with play being tied at 4-4.

Idaho will be on the road next week, traveling to Wyoming on Friday. It will be the second match against the Cowgirls this season. Idaho opened the season with a 6-1 loss to Wyoming back on Jan. 28.
