ABILENE, Texas—For the second time in as many days action came down to the wire at the Teague Events Center. Idaho men's tennis was not able to gain the edge on Sunday, falling 4-3 to Abilene Christian
Idaho (7-3) got out to a 1-0 lead at the start of the day. The Vandals took the double point from ACU, after dropping the first pairing of the day, 6-4, at No. 2.
Mark Kovacs and
Carlos Longhi Neto bounced back with a 6-4 win at No. 1 to even the point.
Felipe Fonseca and
Guilherme Scarpelli clinched the doubles point with a 7-6(2) win at No. 3.
Abilene Christian got the first nod in singles play. Nico Agritelley got a 6-2, 6-4 win over Fonseca to even the match at a point apiece. Longhi Neto got the lead back for Idaho with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 3. The Wildcats again knotted up the match with a 6-2, 7-6(5) win at No. 1.
The match came down to a best two out of three. Courts No. 4, 5 and 6 all were in action concurrently. Idaho was first to the punch.
Esteban Santibanez scored a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 5, putting Idaho up 3-2. ACU fired back with win at No. 4 and No. 6 to take the match.
Idaho remains on the road next week with five matches in six days. The week begins with Southern Utah on Tuesday.
