FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.—Idaho men's tennis had a quick turnaround on Thursday, playing its second match in less than 24 hours. The Vandals found themselves in a tight Big Sky match at Northern Arizona, closing on the short end of the 4-3 result.
Idaho (8-5, 3-2 BSC) got out to an early 2-1 lead, after dropping the doubles point at the start. Freshman
Carlos Longhi Neto put Idaho on the board first. He won at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2, over NAU's Sebastian Eguez.
Guilherme Scarpelli completed Idaho's second win of the day, 7-5, 6-2, on the No. 6 court.
Northern Arizona (6-6, 3-0 BSC) ripped of the next two singles wins, taking a 3-2 lead in the match. The Lumberjacks took the No. 1 court 6-4, 6-3, evening the score at two. Ruben Montano outlasted
Lucas Coutinho, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2, to get within one point of the win.
The final two matches in play both went three sets. Felix Schumann clinched the win for the 'Jacks at No. 4, wrapping up before play on No. 2.
Felipe Fonseca earned Idaho's final point at No. 2 with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win.
Idaho continues with Big Sky play on the road on Saturday. The Vandals will head to Weber State for a rematch with the 2016 Big Sky champions.
