BOISE—Idaho men's tennis had its two-match winning streak snapped on Sunday. The Vandals fell, 4-3, to instate rival Boise State in non-conference play.  

The Vandals drop to 11-7 overall with three Big Sky matches left before the conference tournament. Idaho holds a 6-2 record in the Big Sky, good for a tie for second with Eastern Washington.

Boise State (5-20) got the early advantage, beating out the Vandals for the doubles point. The Broncos picked up the win on No. 3 play to open the day. Lucas Coutinho and Guilherme Scarpelli drew Idaho back to even with a 6-3 win at No. 2. Boise State scored a 6-3 win at No. 1 to seal to point.

Scarpelli, a freshman from São Paulo, Brazil, recorded the first singles win of the day. He won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, over Ryland McDermott at No. 6 to even the match at one.

Freshman Esteban Santibanez handed Idaho a brief 2-1 lead. He picked up his team-best 13th win of the season. Sanitbanez fought from behind after dropping the first set, 6-4, to Morgan Stone. He came back with a 6-3, 6-1 finish to score the point at No. 5

Boise State won the next two matches to gain a 3-2 advantage, leaving court No. 4 to decide the match. Pedro Platzeck outlasted Coutinho in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, to hand the Broncos the win.

The Vandals will next head to Eastern Washington to take on the Eagles on April 12. Idaho will return home for the final time on April 15 against Montana State, before closing out the regular season at Portland State on April 22.
