GRAND FORKS, N.D—Idaho women's tennis kicked off the Big Sky season with a 6-1 win at North Dakota on Friday. The win marks the first of the young season for the Vandals.

Laura Spataro and Maria Tavares got Idaho's day started in the right direction. The Vandal pair picked up the win at No. 2 doubles to open the session. Maggie Chen and Shion Watabe clinched the point for Idaho on the No. 3 court, 6-4.

No. 42 Marianna Petrei cruised in the No. 1 position. She went 6-3, 6-0 over Carmen Palumbo. Tavares took the No. 2 court in three sets after doping the first (3-6, 6-1, 6-3). Lucia Badillos breezed past Preethi Kasilingam at No. 3, 6-1, 6-2.

The Vandals closed the match with wins at No. 4 and 6. Spataro picked up her first win as a Vandal, 7-5, 6-4 at No. 4. Watabe rounded out the day at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-2 decision.

The Vandals remain on the road at Northern Colorado on Sunday.
