LEWISTON, Idaho—Idaho women's tennis, playing its sixth match in the last eight days, defeated in-state rival Idaho State on Tuesday. The Vandals controlled the match for the entirety, outplaying the Bengals 6-1.
Idaho (5-6, 4-1 BSC) asserted itself early on. The Vandals controlled play on all three doubles courts to open the match.
Lucia Badillos and
Laura Spataro won with ease, 6-0, in No. 2 play to open the match.
Marianna Petrei and
Maria Tavares matched them with a 6-0 win at No. 1.
Maggie Chen and
Marta Magalhães were up 5-2 at No. 3 before abandoning the match.
The Vandals continued its stellar play throughout singles. Spataro earned the Vandals' first individual win, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 4 position. Tavares improved to 5-0 in the Big Sky, picking up a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2. Petrei dropped the first set, 7-5, to Hristina Cvetkovic in No. 1 play. The ITA's 44th ranked player battled back to clinch the match with a pair of 6-3, 6-0 wins.
Badillos and Watabe picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 6 before the day's end.
The Silver and Gold sit second in the Big Sky with six conference matches left in the season. Northern Arizona has a one-game advantage over the Vandals with a 5-0 record.
The Vandals will be back on the courts in Boise on Saturday, Mar. 24. The team will take on Montana State in a non-conference bout, before going up against Boise State on Sunday.
