BOZEMAN, Mont.—The Idaho women's tennis team booked its return trip to the Big Sky Tournament on Saturday. The Vandals defeated Montana State 7-0 to finish off a perfect weekend.
Idaho (11-6, 8-1 BSC), the three-time defending Big Sky champions, is guaranteed one of six spots in the conference tournament set to begin Apr. 26. The Vandals did not drop a match this weekend, going 14-0 against the Montana schools. The Vandals have won their last seven matches and close the regulars season at home next week.
The Vandals handled to doubles point with ease to open with a 1-0 advantage.
Laura Spataro and
Lucia Badillos shutout Montana State's No. 2 pair, 6-0.
Maggie Chen and
Marta Magalhães  put on the finishing touches with a 6-3 win at No. 3.
Badillos won her third consecutive match to get Idaho started in singles. She defeated Annie Walker at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1.
Maria Tavares continued her winning ways, extending her streak to eight straight wins. She dispatched of Angelina Philippova, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2. Spataro, a freshman, registered the clincher for the Vandals at No. 4 with her 6-4, 6-4 triumph.
Marianna Petrei, the No. 39 ranked player in the ITA, notched her 11th win of the season. She remained unbeaten in the Big Sky with a 6-4, 7-6(9) win at No. 1.
Shion Watabe and Chen closed out the sweep for the Vandals. Watabe picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5, while Chen went 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 at No. 6.
Idaho closes out the regular season next week with a pair of matches at home. The Vandals will start on Friday against Weber State and finish up against Southern Utah on Saturday. Â
