NEWBERG, Ore.— Vandals took the Bruins, a nationally ranked DIII team, down to the wire and came out on top in a 4-3 thriller Thursday evening in Newberg.
Idaho opened up the match trailing George Fox 0-1 after the Bruins clinched the double points. Partners, Carlos Neto and
Esteban Santibanez, finished first defeating the George Fox 6-3 on court one, but the Bruins rallied to take the last two courts.
It was in the singles round where Idaho found the spark that leads to Idaho's 4-3 win. Santibanez started the Vandals of by taking out Keaton Baker 6-1, 6-1. Bruno Casino followed with a three-setter winning 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Not too far behind was
Valentin Popescu, who held onto a 6-1, 7-5 win versus Luke Lemaitre.
Lucas Coutinho was the deciding factor as he secured Idaho's winning point.
