PORTLAND, Ore.— Idaho men's tennis stumbles in Oregon with a 5-2 loss against the University of Portland Saturday evening at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center.
With the loss, Idaho drops to 2-4 on the season. Portland improves to 2-5 with the win.
Idaho took the doubles point to start the day off strong. The Vandals won on the No. 2 doubles court, but Portland leveled the playing field winning at the No. 3 spot. It was up to
Carlos Longhi Neto and
Lucas Coutinho to clinch the double points, which they did in defeating Portland in a 7-6 (14-12) thriller.
Although Portland took five single matches, Idaho did not let it happen without a fight. Four out of the five single matches Idaho loss went to three sets, while singles No. 4 ended in a 6-2, 6-0 sweep. Idaho's only singles point came on the No. 5 court, where
Lucas Coutinho earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Issa Yoshida.
