MOSCOW, Idaho—Idaho men's and women's tennis close out the regular season this weekend. Each team plays its final matches ahead of the Big Sky Championship Tournament in Arizona next week.
The Vandal women (11-6, 7-1) have a pair of matches before closing out the 2019 regular season. This weekend's matches are critical as the Vandals are looking to grab its first regular season title under head coach
Babar Akbar.
There are three teams vying for the title and all will converge in Flagstaff with the Vandals taking on the Northern Arizona (11-8, 7-1) first on Saturday at 9 a.m. Sunday will be the women's last match of the 2019 spring season versus Southern Utah at Noon in Cedar City.
The Vandals, Eastern Washington Eagles and Northern Arizona Lumberjacks all currently have a 7-1 Big Sky record, tying the three programs for first in the league with two remaining matches on the season.
Idaho will not only be fighting for the regular season title this weekend, the top two seeds in next week's championship tourney have yet to be claimed. The three leaders, along with Weber State (7-2) are all in play for the top two seeds.
Senior
Marianna Petrei, the conference's three-time MVP, boasts a 12-3 overall record are No. 1 singles. Tying with four other players, she is undefeated in the Big Sky with a 7-0 record. What is more impressive is her career record in the Big Sky, where she claims a 38-0 career.
The Vandal men (5-14, 2-7) concludes the regular season at Eastern Washington (4-14, 2-7) Saturday. First serve takes place at 1 p.m. in Cheney, Washington.
