RESULTS
BOISE, Idaho – Women's tennis got its 2019-20 season started over the weekend at the Barb Chandler Tournament in Boise.
Competition was played in pairs. Each pairing played a doubles match and then split up for individual matches. The pair with the most match wins advanced.
WHITE DRAW
Shion Watabe paired up with Weber State's McKenna Lloyd to defeat
Marta Magalhães and
Nicole Horacek. Watabe defeated Magalhães, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, and won at doubles, 6-3. Horacek defeated Lloyd, 7-5, 6-3.
Watabe and Lloyd won again on Saturday, defeating a team from Boise State. They won the doubles match, 6-4, and Watabe was victorious at singles, 6-1, 6-2. They'd go on to win on Sunday as well. Watabe won her singles point, 6-3, 6-1, and helped win the doubles match, 6-2.
Magalhães and Horacek responded with a win on Saturday over an Idaho State squad, despite dropping the doubles point. Magalhães won her singles match, 6-0, 6-1, and Horacek won her singles match, 7-5, 6-1. They went on to win on Sunday, defeating another Bronco squad. Magalhães won her singles match, 6-3, 6-1, and Horacek won hers, 6-2, 7-5. They earned the sweep, picking up the doubles point, 6-2.
BLUE DRAW
Laura Spataro and
Mellisa Huchet dropped their opening doubles match, 6-4, competing against Utah State. Huchet would win her individual match, 7-5, 6-1, but the Aggies took the team win to advance.
Spataro and Huchet paired up again on Sunday to win against Weber State. The won the doubles match, 6-1, and Spataro won her singles match, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).
ORANGE DRAW
Maggie Chen and
Andjela Todorovic also fell to a Utah State squad. Chen rallied after getting shutout in the opening set to take her individual match, 0-6, 6-3, 6-1. Chen and Todorovic dropped the team match, 6-1.
Chen and Todorovic bounced back to defeat a pairing from Boise State in the consolation bracket on Saturday. They won at doubles, 6-1, and Todorovic won at singles, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3). They'd fall in their final match on Sunday. Chen won her singles match, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1), but the team fell in doubles, 6-1.
