MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho swim earned its first win of the season, defeating Seattle U., 196-119. The Vandals closed out the meet with wins in three-of-four events.
Â
"Well we got out and raced," said head coach
Mark Sowa. "Once again it's worth mentioning, we're so grateful that Seattle could figure out how to get down here safely. We're so thankful for our athletic training staff to work with us to figure out safe protocols. But beyond that, we're just so psyched that we were able to do what we do, and that's compete."
Â
The Vandals started the fourth session the same way as they had the previous three: with a relay win.
Ani Husaby,
Holly Keir,
Rylie Jones and
Katie Hale took the 400-yard medley relay in 3:52.23. Husaby added a win in the 200-yard fly. It was another close race, but she took first in 2:09.30 to edge out teammate
Haylee Buyers by just over half a second.
Â
Alexa Teneyck earned another win on the weekend, finishing first overall in the 500-yard free. She trailed late, but her final surge was enough to get the win by 0.16 seconds, finishing in 5:08.86.
Â
"Alexa's 500-freestyle, winning that race in literally the last stroke, that's a big step forward for that young lady. That was not an easy swim for her in the fourth session of this meet. But to be able to lose a lead in the middle of the race, come back and get her hand on the wall for a win was huge.
Â
"We are so grateful to be able to race and we're thankful to be able to be great Vandals."
Â
The Vandals look to take on Washington State in a dual meet next week weekend. Check back with GoVandals.com during the week for more information.
