WAC RELEASE
DENVER, Colo. – Junior
Katie Hale has been selected as this week's TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Â
"She's really matured as a race," said head coach
Mark Sowa. "We always knew she was really talented and every year she learns more and more about how to be poised during a race. 50.2 on the hammer there (in the 400-yard medley relay) was really good. It's fun, you could see her on her second turn breathing to the left because she wanted to see where the rest of the field was. So again, it goes back to pretty good race awareness."
Â
Hale was stellar over the weekend in the season-opening meet. She won every race she competed in, including helping four relays to victory.
Â
Her first individual win came in the 50-free, where she put up an impressive time of 23.30 seconds. She followed that up with a win in the 100-back on Saturday morning in 56.50 seconds, and then took the 100-free in 51.43 seconds later in the day.
Â
Hale and the Vandals will remain home this weekend to take on Washington State. More information on the meet will be available in the coming days.
