MOSCOW, Idaho – Vandal Rewind is back with another big Idaho football win, this time showcasing last year's Homecoming victory over Idaho State in the Idaho Central Credit Union Battle of the Domes. Coverage, featuring new interviews with head coach
Paul Petrino, Director of Athletics
Terry Gawlik and senior defensive back
Lloyd Hightower, begins at noon Pacific on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Fans can follow along on the TuneIn App, the Vandal Gameday App, GoVandals.com/Listen and select stations on the Vandal Radio Network.
Hightower stood out among a defensive unit that set the tone early and often. Having dropped the previous meeting in Pocatello in 2018, the Vandals entered the matchup looking for redemption.
"We talked about it," said Hightower. "When we huddled up when we were about to go back in, I called everybody together and said, 'remember what happened last year.'"
The Vandal faithful bought in as well, creating an incredible environment inside a packed Kibbie Dome.
"It was crazy" Hightower said. "The fans were going crazy, our sideline was going crazy. Didn't our sideline get a penalty? Everyone was going crazy, that was awesome. It was great to have all these people in the Dome. It was just amazing. Amazing."
Hightower's two defensive touchdowns helped lead the way in an exciting 45-21 victory, but Hightower was also quick to recognize the efforts of his teammates.
"Those were 95 percent everybody else, all my teammates, and five percent me finishing the play," Hightower said. "The first interception, the d-line got a good pass rush. [The quarterback] was running out of the pocket, he didn't know where to go. Everyone else was covered, Tyrese (Dedmon) was behind me so he couldn't throw it deep. I was just in the right place."
It was much of the same for his second.
"At first, when I saw the fumble I was just hyped we got the fumble but then 'oh it's still going.' I don't know who,
Kayode Rufai I think, he tried to pick it up and missed it so I was still running to the ball. Then Saan (Crawford), I think, just hit it and it kept rolling. Then it was just right there, and the endzone was right there.
"Leo got the strip on that right? Leo Tamba? He had great effort that play, he made that play happen. And Saan wasn't selfish and landed on it, he hit it back, so it was all them. I just had to finish it."
