Suryadinata Tied for Second After First Two Rounds of Nick Watney Invitational

RESULTS

FRESNO, Calif. – Freshman Jose Suryadinata sits in a tie for 2nd place on the individual leaderboard after the conclusion of the first two-rounds of the Nick Watney Invitational.

As a team, Idaho shot a four-under 572 through the first two rounds of the Nick Watney Invitational. The Vandals currently sit in 7th place with 18 holes left to play on Tuesday in a very close and competitive field.

"Approaching tomorrow the exact same as today," said head coach David Nuhn. "Strategic tee shots, smart approaches to middles of these extremely small greens, smart misses, make some putts. Number 1 thing is to stay aggressive. We can pick good targets that are not the flagsticks, but that doesn't mean we can be lackadaisical.  We must hit shots with intention always. Today was a blast, tomorrow is going to be also. We are excited and ready."

Suryadinata came out on fire during his first collegiate tournament. In the first round, the freshman fired in seven birdies with an opening round score of 3-under. Suryadinata carried his momentum in the second round, firing a second-round score of 4-under. Suryadinata finishes the day with a combined score of 7-under and only trails first place by one stroke.

Graduate student Sean Mullan is within the top 15 after a two-round score of 3-under. Mullan caught fire on his front-nine during the first round, firing in three birdies in his final five holes of the round. Mullan continued his consistent play and scored a 2-under in the second round. Mullan is tied for 14th entering the final round of play tomorrow.

Junior Colt Sherrell finished his opening two rounds with a combined score of 1-over through 36 holes. Sherrell's best round came in the morning, as he made four birdies. Sherrell is tied for 30th with one round left to play on Tuesday.

Four stokes behind is junior Jack Plaster. With 18 holes left to play, Plaster is tied for 39th with a combined score of 5-over through two rounds. Junior Joel Veenstra is in 48th place with a two-round score of 13-over.

St. Mary's is in the first place with a combined score 20-under. Individually, Gavin Cohen of Loyola Marymount leads with the sole possession of first place with a combined score of 8-under. The third and final round of the Nick Watney Invitational will begin tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. PT.
