FARMINGTON, Utah – Following a pair of 5-0 wins for the Idaho women's soccer team,
Kaysie Bruce has been named the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Bruce scored four goals over the two games, including a hat trick on Sunday, and had the game winner in both matches.
The senior from Gig Harbor, Washington, scored the opening goal on Friday in the 23rd minute. The Vandals would go on to win, 5-0, over Portland State.
On Sunday, Bruce got going early again, scoring the first and second goals of the games. In the sixth minute, she ran onto a ball from
Hadley Sbrega and calmly beat the keeper to put Idaho up, 1-0.
Â
In the 23rd minute she doubled the advantage, finding herself in front of the net where
Myah Merino found her.
Â
With the Vandals up, 4-0,
Jadyn Hanks played a ball through to Bruce. The goalkeeper saved her first shot, but Bruce slotted home the rebound to record her first career hat trick and the first three-goal performance for the Vandals since 2018.
Â
Bruce now leads the conference in goals with four. Idaho scored five goals in back-to-back games for the first time since 2017.
The Vandals return home for the final time this season. Idaho will host Sacramento State for two games on March 26 and 28. Friday's match will kick off at 6 p.m., while Sunday will begin at noon.
