MOSCOW, Idaho – Vandal Football alum and veteran assistant coach Stanley Franks Jr. has joined Idaho Head Coach
Jason Eck's staff as Cornerbacks coach.
"I am blessed and appreciative for the opportunity to return to my alma mater and give back to the place where it all started for me," Franks said. "I am turned up to the max for the vision that Coach Eck has for Vandal Football and to be a part of his staff. Nothing better than Vandals developing Vandals."
Franks comes to Idaho from Washington State where he spent the last two seasons as a Defensive Quality Control Coach. In his position, he worked on film breakdown and scouting. He also recruited Oklahoma and California.
"I knew Coach Franks as a player and he has a lot of passion and love for this place," Eck said. "We have stayed in contact over the years. I coached against him when he was at Idaho State and he did a great job in CFL both as a player and as a coach. He worked with Coach Jake Dickert at Washington State last season and I have great respect for him. Coach Dickert spoke highly of his maturity and his serious approach. He is going to do a great job leading and mentoring our corners. Lastly, we are fired up to get a guy here that is passionate about being a Vandal."
Prior to his time at WSU, he was the Defensive Coordinator for one season at Cabrillo College in Aptos, California.
He spent two seasons as the Assistant DBs coach for the Canadian Football League's BC Lions in 2017 and 2018. The Lions were either first or second in his two seasons for pass knockdowns and interceptions.
He was the defensive backs coach at Idaho State from 2013 to 2017. During his time in Pocatello, he was responsible for the defensive pass scheme. He recruited Southern California.
Franks was the DBs coach and Defensive Coordinator for the Spokane Shock during the 2012 season and coached High School ball at Ferris High School in Spokane for two seasons prior to his time with the Shock.
He played three seasons for the BC Lions from 2009-2011 and played one season with the Spokane Shock Indoor Football League in 2009. He was signed as a free agent after graduation with the Chargers.
Franks' name is all over the University of Idaho record books. He holds the Idaho single-season interception record when he grabbed nine during the 2006 season, a mark that led the NCAA that year. He also earned All-WAC First Team honors and Sports Illustrated Honorable Mention All-America honors. He had a 98-yard interception return touchdown against Utah State in 2006, the fourth-longest in Vandal history. He also holds the single-season school record for interception return yards with 220.
