Vandal Volleyball Rallies Past Northern Arizona

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Idaho volleyball team (4-16, 1-7 BSC) got back in the win column, taking down Northern Arizona (3-13, 2-7) in four sets, 21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-17, on Saturday afternoon at Rolle Activity Center.

"Clearly it has been a long time coming," Idaho head coach Chris Gonzalez said. "I'm incredibly happy for the players and the staff. It has not been for a lack of preparation, so I am happy to see them rewarded for their effort. Although we did not win the first set, we were able to use the type of attack we were hoping to use against NAU with higher frequency. They are a strong blocking team and so to be able to adapt our offense after the first set, that credit belongs to the setters."

Freshman Taryn Vrieling led the Vandals with the first double-double of her career, as she posted personal bests in both kills and digs with 17 and 11, respectively. Not only did Vrieling deliver on the attack consistently, but she also hit an efficient .350 percentage.

Graduate Allison Munday put up another all-around performance with 13 kills, eight digs and seven blocks.
Middle blocker Travel Morris had one of her best days at the net defensively with a career-high 11 blocks. She also provided offensively with five kills on five swings for the Vandals.

Hailey Pelton and Kate Doorn split time at setter for Idaho, as the duo each recorded double-digit assist numbers. Pelton tallied 29 while Doorn added 12.
Freshman Aine Doty put up her 16th double-figure dig effort, with a game-high 19 digs.

NAU's Jordan Elder and Kylie Moran led the Lumberjacks with 12 kills each. Kate Hatch finished with 44 assists and 11 digs.

Idaho returns to Memorial Gym next week, as they get set to host Montana State (Oct. 27) and Montana (Oct. 29). Both matches will air on ESPN+.

"We will try to improve during this week of practice in preparation for two good Montana squads," Gonzalez stated.
