Vandals Clash with Bears Friday

MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho women's swimming and diving starts off their two-meet home stretch this weekend against Northern Colorado. The Vandals (3-1) and the Bears (3-0) are set to get underway Friday, Oct. 28, at 4 p.m. from the UI Swim Center. 

ABOUT NORTHERN COLORADO
The Northern Colorado Bears are starting off the 2022-23 season strong after coming off a record-breaking 2021-22 season. Northern Colorado finished third at the 2022 WAC Championships with its highest-ever point total at 530.5. UNC received four gold medals, three silver and six bronze. The Bears also made an appearance at the National Invitation Championships where they wrapped up their season and made an 11th place finish out of 42 schools. 

IN THE WAC
Idaho freshman Grace Ruble has got off to a successful start in her first season as a Vandal. Last week against NAU, she earned her third Division I win as a Vandal, posting a top five conference time of 2:08.99 in the 200-yard individual medley. Ruble is also ranked in the top-10 for the 50 breast (31.32) and eighth best time in the 100 breast (1:06.78). 

AHEAD OF THE CURVE
Idaho opened the 2022-23 conference season last weekend against Northern Arizona University. Despite the loss (182-110), this Vandals team put on a great performance and had a lot to be excited about. Senior Kaling Phung delivered an excellent start to conference play with a win in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 58.74. Three Vandals followed behind with Ani Husaby (59.69), Alexa Teneyck (1:00.15) and Emma Stahl (1:01.94) placing in second, third and fourth, respectively. Idaho also made a clean sweep of the top-three spots in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Senior Rylie Jones led the charge with teammates Ella Haskins, Bethany Rahn and Sarah Shaffer to finish in 3:34.27.
