Vandal Soccer Signs Seven Prep Athletes

MOSCOW, Idaho – University of Idaho soccer coach Jeremy Clevenger announced seven signees to the 2022 prep signing class, Thursday. The group includes four Northwest products and an international player.
The first group is balanced including two goalkeepers, three attacking players and two defensive players.

"I am really excited about our 2022 class," Clevenger said. "This is a class that is super athletic and talented.  They are also high character people and will be great additions to our team.  We look forward to their impact this fall."

The Vandals will announce the signing of transfers at a later date.

VanGesen heads south down the Idaho panhandle to join the Vandals. She spent her senior year playing for the Bulldogs and led Sandpoint to an undefeated 12-0 regular season while scoring six goals and grabbing nine assists. She played three years at South Kitsap High School in Washington and had 10 goals and 10 assists there. During the 2018 season, she earned WIAA Athlete of the Week honors and Student-Athlete of the Month honors while playing for South Kitsap.

She played club soccer for the Spokane Sounder Girls Academy and tallied three goals and five assists in 13 games. She played for the Washington Premier Football Club for three years and scored 16 goals and grabbed 10 assists.

She was on the Washington State Elite Player Development (EPD) team (2016-2021) US Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP).

Academically, she earned the distinguished Scholastic Award for the 2021 season.

Sprink is a team captain and three-year All-State player for Glacier Peak. She tallied 12 career goals and led her team to the State quarterfinals her senior year. She helped lead her club team to a Dallas Cup Championship and a Mayors Cup Championship.

She carries a 3.95 GPA and is a member of the national honor society. Her older sister, Chase, played soccer for NAIA member Westmont College.

Yoshida-Williams is a four-year high school starter, four-year All-League player and was the NPSL 2019 Offensive Player of the Year. She helped lead Mount Rainier to the playoffs for the first time in two decades. She led her team in goals and assists and was a team captain her senior year.

On the club side, she was a four-year member of the Elite Player Development team. She helped lead her club to the 2019 Surf Club Championship. She also acted as the captain of her club team.

Her father played baseball at Seattle University. She earned International Baccalaureate honors at Rainier.

Alvarez comes from one of the most dominant high school programs in the nation in Jesuit. The team was ranked No. 1 in the nation during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. She helped lead the team to four consecutive league titles and state championships in 2018 and 2019. She finished her career with 22 goals and 17 assists while leading the team as a captain during her senior year.

She joined NW Elite FC in 2021, but played for other clubs throughout her career. She played in the US Youth Nationals in 2018 and the led her team to a Surf Cup Championship in 2017.

She is a four-year honor roll student and a member of the National Honor Society and served as a member of her high school's student body cabinet in 2021.

Hicken comes to Idaho from the Beehive State where she was a four-year letterwinner and senior captain for Highland HS. She was invited to the Utah HS All-Star game her senior year.

She was played her club ball with the Utah Soccer Alliance. The team played in elite tournaments including the national pro, the national league, desert conference league and the Northwest Conference Club V Club.

Academically, she was a four-year honor-roll student and served as the student-body vice president. Her father, Drew, is a former professional snowboarder.

Auth is one of two goalkeepers that join the Vandal squad in 2022. She is a four-year letterwinner and earned Second-Team All-Conference honors her junior year. She played four years of club ball for Colorado Rapids ECNL.

Academically, she is a four-year Academic Letterwinner and a member of the National Honor Society. She also earned Academic All-State honors.

Division I soccer runs in the family. Her brother Carter played goalkeeper for Gonzaga and her brother Davis was a defender for Vermont. She was also a two-year letterwinner on the Mountain Vista Girls Basketball team.

Witte comes to Idaho from Germany where she is a backup goalkeeper for SV Werder Bremen which plays in Flyerarlam Frauen-Bundesliga, the top women's league in Germany. She made one start during the 2020-21 season against Bayern Munich. She played against multiple members of the German National Team, including players that had multiple goals in World Cup play.  

She has seen action in the second and third division SV Werder Bremen Teams of German women's soccer.
