BOISE – The Idaho women's tennis team competed for three days at the Barb Chandler Classic at Boise State this weekend, recording impressive efforts from multiple newcomers. 

Idaho went up against players from Boise State, Idaho State, Montana State, Utah and Weber State. 

Lena Beckx and Selin Sepken stood out for the Vandals going 2-0 in singles action over conference foes Montana and Weber State to help clinch a berth in the Orange Flight finals.

"Going to the finals in back-to-back tournaments is a huge accomplishment and it shows the depth we have," Idaho head coach Sanne Louwers. "We still have a lot of room to grow but are in a very good spot with this young and new team."

Beckx earned a pair of straight-set wins, defeating Montana's Shivika Agrawal, 6-2, 6-1 in the opening round before beating Megan Davies (Weber State) 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinals. Sepken followed it up in a similar fashion with wins over Hailey Murphy of Montana, 6-3, 6-3 and Kenadee Semenik (Weber State) 6-1, 6-4. The pair earned a doubles victory over Boise State 7-6 (5) in the final, but ultimately fell in both singles matches to finish runner-up. 

Nicole Horacek and Jayanne Palma were the second Vandal pair to move on to the semifinals after taking two out of three matches against Montana State in singles and doubles play in the White Flight.

The duo knocked off Maria Villarejo and JJ Chen (6-4) in doubles while Horacek defeated Villarejo 6-3, 6-1 in singles. Horacek and Palma eventually took fourth place after falling to Boise State in the semifinals and Montana State in the consolation finals.   
 
Up next, the Vandals will head to Cheney next weekend for the Eastern Washington Invite for a three-day tournament, Sept. 30-Oct. 2.
