PULLMAN, Wash. – Idaho swimming made the short drive to Pullman to take on Washington State in a dual meet on Friday night. The Vandals dropped its regular season finale to the Cougars, 162-92.
Despite the loss, the Vandals posted solid performances throughout the meet that included nine runner-up finishes.
Ella Haskins and
Kaling Phung headlined Friday's effort for the Vandals with two second-place finishes each. Haskins clocked in at 23.73 in the 50-yard free and 51.41 in the 100-yard free to finish second in both races. A top scorer on the night for Idaho, Phung placed second in the 200-yard back (2:06.73) and 100-yard IM (59.46). She also got a third-place finish (1:44.30) as part of the 200-yard medley relay team, joined by
Ani Husaby,
Haily Oldham and Haskins.
Zoe Froh,
Rylie Jones,
Grace Ruble and
Taylor Wassel all took home second-place finishes in their respective events. Froh finished in 5:08.23 in the 500 free, while Jones clocked in at 57.23 in the 100 butterfly. Ruble came in second with a time of 2:22.44 in the 200 breaststroke and Wassell finished in 2:06.59 in the 200 butterfly.
Idaho prepares for the Western Athletic Championships in Pharr, Texas for a four-day (Feb. 22-25) event, hosted by Texas Rio Grande Valley.
