MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho Track & Field/Cross Country program is excited to announce that Kyle Swenson from Mountain View High School has committed to continue his running career with the Vandals. From Bend, Oregon, Kyle brings a range of abilities and strengths from the 800 meters on the track to the 5K on the cross country course.
As a sophomore, Kyle proved to be an up and comer for Mountain View in both cross country and track and field. In the fall of his junior year, he qualified for the Oregon state championships in cross country and gained experience that would prove to be useful in the spring.
Kyle grew tremendously through the winter and lowered his personal best in the 1500 meters from 4:12 in 2021 to 4:04 in 2022 at the Nike Twilight Relays in Portland. He continued to show off his speed, setting another personal best in the 800m a couple of weeks later when he ran 1:56.7 to place second at the Mountain Valley Conference Championships. He qualified for the Oregon State Championships in the 800 meters, placing 16th overall.
This past fall Kyle continued to progress in cross country, recording his fastest time in the 5-kilometer race at 16:06, and went on to break the 17-minute barrier another five times during the season in the buildup toward the conference and state championships. Kyle placed 20th at the Oregon 5A State Championships, the highest placing individual for Mountain View.
"We are excited to have Kyle join the Vandal track family. He not only will he add to the team on the track but also in the classroom." -
