CALDWELL, Idaho -- Idaho women's swimming and diving topped College of Idaho, 238-24 to open the 2023-24 regular season. The Vandals won all 15 events competed in, while also sweeping the top three spots in each competition.
Idaho came out on top in two relays and 13 individual events, with 10 different swimmers and divers earning a first-place finish. Diver
Emily Mack and freshmen newcomers
Sydney Heasman and
Ginger Kiefer recorded wins in two events to help lead the Vandals to its first win of the season. Mack was victorious in the 1-meter and 3-meter to kick off her senior season. Heasman picked up wins in 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle while Kiefer won in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle.
The 200 medley relay team of
Grace Qualman,
Jennifer Conger,
Bindi Pedersen and
Helen Schumaker led the Vandals to a victory with a time of 1:50.39. Idaho closed out the meet with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as
Rylie Jones,
Bethany Rahn,
Sarah Shaffer and
Emma Stahl powered Idaho to a first-place finish (1:41.88).
Newcomers
Catherine Hyde and Qualman earned their first individual victories as Vandals, posting wins in the 100-yard backstroke (59.06) and 50-yard backstroke (28.33), respectively.
The Vandals will make their home debut next week with a tri-meet against Grand Canyon and Simon Fraser. The meet is set to start on Friday, Oct. 6 and wrap up on Saturday, Oct. 7.
