Flores, Peters Receive Big Sky Weekly Recognition

Idaho earns Big Sky leading sixth conference award

FARMINGTON, Utah – After delivering a pair of shutouts at home last week, Idaho goalkeeper Paula Flores and defender Alyssa Peters were selected as Big Sky Players of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. 

Idaho earned critical conference victories to help contain its top spot in the conference standings, defeating Weber State 2-0 on Friday and topping Idaho State 4-0 on Sunday. The final two home victories improved Idaho's record to 7-0-1, achieving the best home winning percentage (.934) in program history.

The Vandals receive their fifth and sixth Big Sky Player of the Week nod, ranking first in the conference. Flores received her first conference weekly honor earning Defensive Player of the Week recognition. Peters received her second consecutive Offensive Player of the Week award, marking the fourth of her career. The native of Bremerton, Washington is now tied with former Idaho goalkeeper Kira Witte for the most conference weekly awards in a single season (3) and career (4) in school history.

Flores has been one of the top goalkeepers in the league for the Vandals all season, helping secure seven shutouts across 17 games this season. The Tijuana, Mexico native tallied five saves in a 2-0 win over Weber State on Friday before recording four saves in a 4-0 victory over Idaho State on Sunday to help earn recognition from the league. 

After recording three assists and one goal a week ago, Peters followed it up with an encore performance of four assists to bring her season total to 13. The set-piece specialist recorded one assist against Weber State before providing a hat trick of assists in her final home game as a Vandal against Idaho State.

  • Ranks second amongst Big Sky keepers with seven shutouts. 
  • Positioned in a tie for first with four shutouts in seven conference matches.

  • She has eight more assists than the league's second-highest player and more than five other teams in the Big Sky.
  • Ranks second in the conference with 17 points.
  • Recorded 14 points, 10 assists and two goals in seven conference games. 
  • Posted one goal and two assists in a 3-2 victory over NAU. 
  • Tallied an assist in a road game at Montana (10/10).
  • Recorded her first goal of the season and second of her career in a 2-0 win over Sacramento State (9/27).
