MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho volleyball fell at home to Montana State in four sets, 25-20, 9-25, 12-25, 14-25 on Thursday night at Memorial Gym.
Taylor Brickey led the Vandals offensively with nine kills, as well as a team-high 10 digs.
Miya Carmichael led the team in assists with 13.
Idaho earned an opening set win, 25-20. The Vandals raced out to a 5-1 lead to gain momentum. Montana State shrunk their deficit to 5-7 before Idaho extended its advantage with a 7-1 spurt to make it 14-6. Later in the set, the Bobcats managed to narrow the gap to just three points (20-23) but that's the closest they would come as the Vandals closed out the set.
Montana State claimed the second set with a score of 25-9. The Bobcats took an early lead, starting the set with an 8-1 run. Idaho chipped away to reduce its deficit to 10-6 but Montana used another 8-0 run and 5-1 run to put the set out of reach.
The Bobcats took the third frame, 25-12. The Bobcats asserted dominance from the start of the set, gaining a 7-3 edge. The Vandals went on a three-point run midway through in an effort to fight back (10-21). Despite this effort, Montana State remained poised and closed out the set.
Montana State closed out the match with a 25-14 victory. Idaho was first on the board for the fourth set in a row, but Montana State quickly took a 6-1 advantage. The Vandals responded with an eight-point streak featuring four points from
Madu Fontes, bringing the score to 9-6 in their favor. Midway through, the Bobcats broke away and continued to gain momentum, creating separation with a 15-11 lead. The gap proved too large for Idaho to overcome.
Idaho will honor its five seniors for their regular season home finale against Montana on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. PST.
