Women’s Tennis Travels South for Three-Match Road Trip

MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho women's tennis (0-1) hits the road this weekend for a pair of stops in Louisiana and Texas as part of a three-match road stretch. The Vandals will face Nicholls on Friday, Feb. 2 at 12 p.m. PST and McNeese State on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. PST before wrapping up action against Lamar on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 8 a.m. PST. 

 

Idaho welcomes back a strong group of six returnees from the 2022-23 season while adding freshman talent, Ida JohanssonDiana Khaydarshina and Naomi Schraeder. Annabel Davis returns to the squad following a stellar spring performance in 2023, where she was named an All-Big Sky Singles First Team recipient. 

Last Time Out
The Vandals fell to Washington State, 5-2 in their spring opener. Idaho began the contest by securing the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. The lone singles win came from Schraeder after she defeated Hania Abouelsaad by way of a tiebreaker (6-3, 5-7, 10-5) to mark her first collegiate dual victory. 

2023 Recap
Idaho ended the 2023 season with a 3-14 record. Davis led the Vandals with an overall singles record of 13-4, including a 6-1 record against Big Sky opponents. She finished the dual season winning nine of her last ten matches and tallied a major win against the All-Big Sky MVP Ana Morett of Weber State.

Other Vandals who found success were duo Rachelle Starreveld and Saffron Dowse, who wrapped up the season with a 7-5 overall doubles record and a 5-2 mark in conference play. The pair posted an impressive victory against Northern Arizona's All-Big Sky Second Team duo.

Fall Play
The Idaho newcomers showed out during fall tournament play. Johansson and Khaydarshina each recorded nine singles wins while Schraeder stood out in doubles action finishing with an 8-4 record. Junior Selin Sepken was strong across the board as she went 9-6 in singles matchups and 6-3 in doubles.
