SPOKANE, Washington - The Vandals wrapped up day two of competition at the 2024 Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships at The Podium in Spokane, Washington. 13 Vandals earned points for Idaho while 15 athletes are set to move to the finals on Saturday.
Idaho freshman Hanna Tait kicked things off for the Vandals on Thursday, scoring a silver medal and eight team points in the women's pentathlon. She ran a personal-best 8.77 in the 60m hurdles, took fifth in the high jump (1.62m), eighth in the shot put (10.09m), first in the long jump (5.71m), and finished fifth in the 800m race (2:27.34). Tait scored a total of 3742 points, the most ever recorded by a Vandal freshman and the third-most in Idaho history.
Landon Peterson finished in 7th place with 4334 points today after two days of competition in the men's heptathlon. This was Peterson's first time competing in the heptathlon in 2023-24. The junior from Onalaska, Wisconsin earned three points for Idaho's team total.
Tayler LyDay scored five points for the Vandal women after landing a season-best 5.65m in her final attempt of the women's long jump.
Sophomore Mia Sylvester finished in fourth place in the women's shot put, throwing 14.35m. Sylvester added five points to the Vandal women's total.
Senior Ellie Grant finished in fifth in the women's high jump at a 1.65m mark, scoring four points for Idaho.
Jurrian Hering broke an Idaho school record in the men's 60m hurdles crossing the tape at 7.83 in second place. The senior edged Paul Dittmer's 2009 record of 7.84 qualifying for Saturday's final round. Hering will compete with teammate Deyondre Davis who also qualified running an 8.22.
Senior Prabhasha Wickramaarachchi punched her ticket to the finals after running a 55.50 in the women's 400m preliminary rounds, the fourth fastest mark today.
Spencer Barrera looks to defend his 400m title from last year's Big Sky Championships after running a 48.18 in the prelims today.
Three Vandal women will compete in the 60m finals on Saturday. Graduate student Camryn Crouch led the way with a personal record of 7.45, the second fastest mark today. Olivia Martin ran a 7.56 and freshman Jana Willems punched her ticket running a personal best, 7.61.
For the men, senior Jemini Archer also notched a personal best 60m dash at 6.76 winning his heat and qualifying for the finals.
Three Vandal men qualified for the men's 800m finals. In heat one, Zac Bright crossed the tape at 1:50.95 while Ethan Sturdivant tabbed a personal best 1:51.15. Lorenz Herrmann won heat two at a 1:51.78 mark.
The freshman Tait continues to shine at the 2024 Big Sky Championships. Tait qualified for the women's 200m finals with a personal best 24.30 and now holds the second-fastest mark in Vandal history. Olivia Martin finished second in her heat at 24.43 and will compete in the finals on Saturday.
Another freshman qualified for the 200m finals, this time it's Jake Hisaw for the men. Hisaw ran a personal record of 21.51 and now stands fifth in Idaho history. Archer qualified for another final with a 21.71 mark.
The women's distance medley relay squad of Katja Pattis, Leah Holmgren, Abigail Thomas, and Franziska Stoehr scored four points for the Vandal women after finishing in fifth at 11:51.12
For the men, Tim Stevens, Jon Watkins, Shane Gard, and Shea Mattson finished the distance medley relay at a 9:53.11 mark in fourth place earning five points.
The final day begins with the men's high jump at 10 AM Saturday while the track events kick off with the women's mile at 11 AM. The awards ceremony will take place following the conclusion of all field events.
