LEWISTON, Idaho – Idaho women's tennis fell by way of a 5-2 defeat to Idaho State on Friday afternoon at the LCSC Tennis Center, concluding the 2024 spring season for the Vandals.
UI opened match play with a pair of losses in doubles to surrender an early 1-0 deficit.
Lena Beckx and
Rachelle Starreveld won on court three by way of a 6-1 score over Megan Lang-Gould and Hana Cho. Idaho's top court in
Valentina Rodas and
Naomi Schraeder were up 5-3 before Lola O'Lideadha and Sol O'Lideadha battled back to earn a 7-5 win.
After ISU posted a win on court three and two to open singles play, Beckx posted a 6-4, 6-4 straight set victory over Stefanya Shalakhova at No. 4 to bring the score to 3-1 in favor of the Bengals.
Idaho State posted two more singles wins at No. 5 and 6 positions to clinch a match win.
Despite the team result being decided,
Diana Khaydarshina put together a valiant comeback effort with a three-set win over Cho on court one. After dropping the first set 6-4, Khaydarshina won 7-6 and 6-4.
Match Ruling vs. Portland State (April 6)
After a successful lineup protest submitted by Portland State, the Big Sky Conference has overturned the match result in favor of the Vikings, 4-3 on April 6. The Vandals finish conference play 3-5, missing the six-team cut for the 2024 Big Sky Tournament.
