MOSCOW, Idaho - The Vandals enter postseason action with the 2024 Big Sky Outdoor Track & Field Championships beginning Wednesday, May 8th and running through Saturday, May 11th. The 2024 Championships are set at the Bobcat Track & Field Complex hosted by Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana.
Action begins with the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon on Wednesday and Thursday. The rest of the field kicks off with the men's javelin at 12:30 pm and the men's 3000 steeplechase at 2 pm on Friday. Saturday holds a full slate of finals action with the awards celebration set for 3:50 pm.
LAST YEAR
The Vandal men finished third at the 2023 Big Sky Outdoor Championships with 103.5 points. The men's 4x400 relay team of
Deyondre Davis,
Jemini Archer,
Lorenz Herrmann, and
Spencer Barrera finished first with a time of 3:10.88.
The women took eighth with three individual champions and a total of 64 points.
Mia Sylvester threw 15.43m for first place as a freshman in the shot put.
Katja Pattis earned the top spot in the 3000 steeplechase at 10:51.86 and
Tayler LyDay took first in the women's triple jump at 12.82m. All three women return for the Vandals in 2024.
2024 BIG SKY OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Freshman
Hanna Tait finished second in the women's pentathlon at the 2024 Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships in Spokane, Washington earlier this year. The eventual Big Sky Indoor Female Freshman of the Year earned a first place finish in the pentathlon's long jump (5.71m) and second in the pentathlon's 60m hurdles (8.77m). Tait will compete in the multis for the first time this outdoor season on Wednesday.
Landon Peterson will represent the Vandals in the men's decathlon at the Big Sky Championships. The junior from Onalasaka, Wisconsin finished sixth in the heptathlon at the 2024 Indoor Championships.
Katja Pattis, the reigning Big Sky Women's 3000 Steeplechase Champion, looks to defend her title on Friday at 2:20 pm. Pattis ran the second fastest time in the conference this year with a 10:15.29 at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Franziska Stoehr leads the conference with the fastest women's 400 hurdles time in 2024 after running a 59.86 at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Stoehr's time is fifth in the Idaho record books.
Prabhasha Wickramaarachchi stands two spots behind Stoehr in the record books with Idaho's seventh fastest time of 1:00.43 from the Cougar Classic Invitational this year. Her mark is the fourth best in the Big Sky this year.
Both Stoehr and Wickramaarachchi will compete in the 400 hurdle prelims at 6:10 pm on Friday.
Camryn Crouch holds two top-five marks this year with the second-fastest time in the 100m (11.60) and the fourth fastest 200m (23.93). Crouch finished fourth in the 100m at the 2023 Big Sky Outdoor Championships. The women's 100m prelims begin Friday at 4:45 pm and the 200m prelims are set for 6:35 pm.
Olivia Martin is slated for the women's 400m entering the weekend with the conference's fifth-fastest time of 55.20. The 400m prelims begin at 4:15 pm.
The Vandal men enter the weekend with top-five marks in the high jump (
Dante Cox, 1.99m), long jump (
Justyn Rogers, 7.41m), and triple jump (
Simone Fedel, 14.81m). The men's long jump kicks off Friday at 2:15 pm while the triple jump begins Saturday at 10:10 am followed by the high jump at 1:15 pm.
Annika Jozin will compete in the women's high jump beginning Friday at 4 pm. Jozin jumped a personal-best 1.69m, tied for the third highest mark in the Big Sky this year.
Noah Culbertson finished second in the men's shot put at the 2023 Big Sky Outdoor Championships. The junior looks to secure the outdoor title this year after throwing a career-best 18.05m for first place at the 2024 Big Sky Indoor Championships. The men's shot put is set for Saturday at 1:05 pm.
Zac Bright looks to lead the Vandal men in the men's 800m prelims at 5 pm. Bright finished fifth at the 2023 Big Sky Outdoor Championships. He enters the 2024 Championships with the No. 5 time of 1:48.91, the eighth fastest time in Idaho history.
Jurrian Hering will compete in the men's 110 hurdle prelims on Friday at 3:20 pm. Hering finished third at last year's outdoor championships.
The men's 4x400 relay team looks to defend their title after their 3:10.88 victory in 2023. Barrera is the only returner from last year's championship squad. He will be joined by Bright,
Lorenz Herrmann, and
Jon Watkins. The championship's penultimate race is set for 3:10 pm on Saturday.
The women's 4x400 relay team of Martin, Wickramaarachchi, Stoehr, and
Blossom Omogor will represent the Vandals in the final event at 3:20 pm on Saturday.
