Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Idaho Soccer Falls 3-1 at Seattle U

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Vandal women's soccer team lost 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Seattle University. Sienna Gonzales scored the lone goal for the Vandals in the final game of the weekend.

The Redhawks got on the board early with a goal in the third minute. Seattle U attacked the right side, crossing the ball into the 18-yard box where U'I Kaaihue finished to the lower left side.

Alyssa Peters had the best chance for Idaho in the 15th minute. Peters stepped up for a free kick just outside the left side of the penalty area, she aimed for the net forcing Seattle U's keeper to tip the shot just over the crossbar.

Seattle U kept up the pressure, hitting the crossbar in the final seconds of the first half. The Vandals fired off four shots, two of which were on goal compared to Seattle U's five total and two on goal during the first half.

The second half rolled slowly in the first 15 minutes until Gonzales headed in the equalizer in the 65th minute. Karli Yoshida-Williams took on the defenders down the left-hand side, cut back, and then crossed the ball into the box where Maddy Lasher and Gonzales were ready to make contact. Gonzales won the ball in the air and directed it to the near post past the keeper's gloves. The goal marked Gonzales' second straight game with a goal and Yoshida-Williams' first assist of the season.
10 minutes later, the Redhawks responded with two back-to-back goals. The first goal came as a result of a handball in the box. Brooke Wilson stepped up and converted the penalty to the lower left corner. Less than 60 seconds later, Seattle U cushioned their lead with a header of their own.

Idaho battled through the remaining minutes to find the equalizer, but their efforts fell short. Idaho finished the opening weekend 1-1 on the road and will return to the pitch at CSUN on August 22nd at noon.
