LOUDONVILLE, NY -- The University of Idaho volleyball team beat Siena College in four sets to jumpstart the Siena Saints Invitational and earn their first win of the season (1-6).
Idaho was led by
Taylor Brickey with a career-high 17 kills and
Madu Fontes with 13 kills. Fontes also posted her first double-double of her Dl career with 11 digs.
The Saints won the first set, 25-13. Idaho had 11 kills but suffered six attack errors to help Siena earn the opening set victory.
Idaho tied the match with a 25-20 win in the second set. Brickey led the charge with six kills in the second to overwhelm the Siena defense.
The Vandals controlled the third set, winning 25-17. Fontes powered the attack with four kills while
Zuzanna Wieczorek posted three kills to help the Vandals go up, 2-1.
Idaho won the fourth set, 25-23, to secure the first win for the Vandals in the 2024 season. The Saints took a commanding 13-2 lead before the Vandals responded with a 17-8 run to inch closer to a 19-22 contest. After Siena scored on the next point, Idaho's resilient group issued six straight points to clinch.
Idaho looks to continue its winning ways with a pair of matchups against NJIT (8 am PT) and Syracuse (1 pm PT) on Saturday to close tournament play.
