PHOENIX, Ariz. — The University of Idaho women's golf team placed third at the Grand Canyon Invitational, finishing at 32-over 896, which wrapped up Wednesday after three rounds at Grand Canyon University Golf Course.
Idaho opened with a 301, surged into contention with a second-round 291 and closed with a 304 to finish behind host Grand Canyon University (861) and Northern Illinois (891). Wyoming was fourth at 900.
Boram Jung led the Vandals, tying for fourth individually at 1-under 215. It is the first top-five finish of her career. Jung rebounded from an opening-round 75 with a team-best 68 in the second round, which was highlighted by an eagle on the par-four 15th. She holed out from 40 yards away. She added an even-par 72 in the final round to secure her top-five finish and her first career tournament under par.
Kaylin Johnson tied for 11th at 10-over 226, posting consistent rounds of 75, 76 and 75.
Ella Kozak finished tied for 13th at 12-over 228, highlighted by an even-par 72 in the second round.
Laura Caamano placed 16th at 14-over 230, carding rounds of 74, 75 and 81, while
Zoe Newell tied for 23rd at 21-over 237.
The Vandals' second-round 291 marked their lowest team score of the tournament and briefly put them within striking distance of the lead before a final-round 304 solidified their third-place finish.
Grand Canyon's Alexis Vakasiuola, the reigning National Mid-Major Player of the Week, claimed medalist honors at 11-under 205.
The Vandals are off for more than a month as they prepare for the Georgia State Invitational on March 30-31 at Rivermont Golf Club in John's Creek, Georgia.
