Idaho (0-0, 0-0) vs. Arizona State (0-0, 0-0)
MOSCOW, Idaho-- The Idaho Vandals men's tennis team opens its 2026 season on the road with a challenging matchup against Arizona State in Tempe, AZ.
Idaho returns to regular-season action on Sunday, January 11, at 1:00 p.m., facing the Sun Devils to begin its spring slate. The Vandals bring a nine-man roster into the season, with four returning players from the previous season. Despite that experience, Idaho remains a young group, led by just one junior, Mikolaj Lis, and one senior, Chetanna Amadike.
Amadike looks to have a strong finish to his college career. Prior to Idaho, he competed two seasons for Alabama A&M, where he earned First Team All-SWAC honors at the No. 2 position and went undefeated in SWAC play. In the 2024-25 season, Amadike collected a ranked singles win vs. Portland, defeating #109 Nikola Keremedichiev.
Chetanna says, "I'm really looking forward to enjoying these last matches with the guys, the last meals, the last van rides. Finally being a senior really makes you appreciate the smaller moments. I'm going into this season free of expectations for myself. Personally, I trust my ability and trust in the team's ability to get the job done. If we play like I know we can, a conference title is inevitable."
Arizona State enters the 2026 season with a refreshed lineup of its own, returning four players from last year's team. In the 2024-25 season, the Sun Devils finished with a record of 12-12 overall and 3-5 in conference play. The two programs last met in 2022, when Idaho, under head coach Daniel Hangstefer, battled Arizona State but fell short of victory.
Sunday's season opener offers an early test for the Vandals as they look to set the tone against a Power Four opponent.
