MOSCOW, Idaho– Idaho wrapped up non-conference play with the Vandal Invitational in the P1FCU Kibbie Dome this past weekend. The Vandals lost to New Mexico on Friday, 2-5 but secured a victory on Sunday over South Dakota, 6-1.

The Vandals battled hard against the Lobos on Friday to kick off the Vandal Invitational. On court one, Jessica Matthews and Naomi Schraeder swept their opponents 6-2. This pairing has proved to be a powerhouse for Idaho during non-conference play and will likely serve the team well throughout the conference campaign. Unfortunately Idaho wasn't able to grab the doubles point. 

In singles competition Idaho fought through every point but could not find their footing in the solo contest. Despite this, Ida Johansson was able to lock down a win 6-2, 6-4.

The Black and Gold were back on the court on Sunday to face-off against South Dakota. The Vandals swept the doubles matches though the Yotes proved to be tough competitors. The final scores from all three doubles matches were 7-5 on court one, 7-6 on court two, and 6-3 on court three. 

Idaho kept fighting hard into singles play and took the win in five of the six matches. Schraeder and Xu took their matches in two sets each. Schraeder won 6-2, 6-0 on court three and Xu won 6-1, 6-4 on court two. Johansson and Matthews both went to three sets against their Yote opponent but Johansson was the only Vandal of the two to secure the win 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. After Sunday's triumph, the Vandals will head into conference play with an overall record of 3-6.
