MOSCOW, Idaho– The Idaho Vandals defeated the Sacramento State Hornets 4-3, in a highly contested Senior Day matchup.
Idaho returned to the Dome for the last home match of the season against Sacramento State. The Sunday morning showdown kicked off with tough doubles action. Despite best efforts, the Vandals were off to a slower start and dropped the doubles point.
Moving into singles play, the Vandals and Hornets battled through a series of tightly contested matches. Idaho struck first on court four, where Ida Johansson secured a 6-3, 6-1 victory. Naomi Schraeder and Hanna Koprowska each endured long, grueling matches that ultimately went in favor of the Hornets, giving them a 3-1 lead. Chenyue Xu responded with a 6-1, 7-5 win to pull the Vandals back within reach.
In the final two matches, Soha Singh and Valentina Rodas fought for every point. Singh delivered a 6-1, 6-4 win to even the score at 3-3, leaving Rodas to decide the match. After dropping a tight first set 6-7, Rodas rallied to win 6-3, 6-2 and clinch the victory for Idaho.
