FARMINGTON, Utah- The Idaho women's tennis team senior, Valentina Rodas has been awarded the Big Sky Player of the Week, the league office announced today. 

Rodas delivered a standout performance on Sunday as Idaho faced No. 58 Sacramento State. In the closely contested match between the Vandals and Hornets, the Columbian native competed from the No. 5 singles position to earn a commanding three-set victory, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3. The match extended her singles win record to five matches and was the decider for the 4-3 Vandal victory.

The Idaho women's tennis head coach, Sanne Clevenger commented, "I'm very happy and proud of Val on her senior day for clinching the match for us. After dropping the first set in a tiebreaker, she responded by playing some of the best and toughest tennis I've seen from her. She was determined to get the win and take down Sac State."

The four-year returner has been quite the asset for the Vandals on and off the court. During the 2024-25 season, Rodas went 14-5 in singles performance which tied the teams best with teammate Naomi Schraeder. She did this all while landing on the Big Sky All-Academic Team to prove her duality as a student-athlete.

This weekly honor highlights the impact Rodas has on the Idaho women's tennis team as they continue to build momentum heading into the home-stretch of the season. 

"It was a great day to be a Vandal," noted Coach Clevenger.

UP NEXT:The Vandals look to take on Portland State who they beat 7-0 in the regular season and 4-0 in the first round of the Big Sky Championships last year. The match is set for 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 29 at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.
