Idaho (5-8, 0-0) vs. BYU (10-1, 0-0)
MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho Men's Tennis team will take another southern road trip down to Boise to face familiar foes #60 Gonzaga and #57 BYU at the Boise State Spring Invitational. The Vandals will start the tournament against the Bulldogs on March 6th at 2:00 p.m. MT, and will finish the day against the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. MT.
Gonzaga's last match was against the Vandals just a few weeks ago, where they defeated the Brave and Bold 4-3. The Zags are currently on a five-match win streak and will start the tournament against the Cougars. After starting the season 5-2, Gonzaga finds itself at the #60 spot in the ITA tennis rankings.
In the last match against the Zags, it went down to the wire. Idaho secured the doubles point, as well as the win on courts one and five. The Bulldogs were taken to a third set on two of the remaining courts, but Idaho was unable to overcome the scrappy hosts.
BYU started its season winning 10 of its first contests. Their only loss came to nonconference opponent Air Force last weekend. With the favorable record to date, the Cougars have slotted themselves at #57 in the ITA tennis rankings.
This will be the second time in as many years that the Vandals faced off with BYU, with last season's matchup occurring in San Luis Obispo, CA. Despite Idaho's attempt, the strong Cougar team took the decision.
Earlier this season, BYU faced off against Big Sky Conference and in-state rival Idaho State, where the blue and white emerged victorious, 4-3. Idaho's matchup with the Cougs is the latest in a non-conference season that features opponents with history against Big Sky foes, which will only provide further looks into the parity of the league.
The Vandals will compete for more matches to fight for first, third, or fifth place on March 7th.
