BOISE, Idaho - The University of Idaho men's tennis team suffered a loss against University of Nebraska, 6-1, in their first match of the Boise State Invitational.
The Vandals, 8-2, were handed their first loss since Feb. 7. The loss ends a seven-match winning streak for No. 69 ranked Idaho.
UI's lone point came from the No. 1 singles spot as Brad Lum-Tucker defeated Gerhard Posch, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2. Coming into this match, this season for Posch, three of his four singles losses came at the hands of nationally-ranked players.
"He played well in the third set, he brought things together," tennis coach Katrina Perlman said. "The first two matches were up and down the whole way."
Singles play also featured two more close matches. At the No. 2 spot, Nebraska's Joerg Barthel slipped past Chris Faulman, 3-6, 7-5, 10-4. At the No. 4 spot, Fabian Dummett almost beat James Clow the first match, 7-6, but it would be Clow who takes the match by winning the next two 7-4, 6-1.
For doubles, Nebraska took all three matches. The closest match for UI was found at the No. 2 spot. Seth Banks and Dummett battled it out with Jose Rivera and Joerg Barthel, but Nebraska would come out as the victor, 9-8.
Next up at the Boise State Invitational, the Vandals take on St. John's at 10 a.m., Friday, March 26 at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club.
"We're looking ahead for that match. We can't do anything about today's loss but move on. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day."
