OMAHA, Neb. - With the match tied 3-3, Andrew Dobbs posted a 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles to seal a 4-3 victory over Creighton for the No. 66 Idaho men's tennis team Monday.
The win snapped a three-match skid for the Vandals and improves Idaho to 5-6 overall this spring.
Idaho dropped the doubles point despite a win at the top spot from Abid Akbar and Marius Cirstea. Akbar got a three-set win at No. 2 singles, and Cristobal Ramos Salazar, Alan Shin and Dobbs sealed Idaho's victory with wins at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles.
"It was nice to get a win against a Creighton team that competed very hard and pushed us making the match as close as a match can get," Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said. "We put ourselves in a hole again losing the doubles point and then down 1-3 with losses by Marius and Jose (Bendeck). Cristobal got himself back on track with a solid win, Alan took care of business at 5, Abid mounted an epic comeback at 2 to win in three sets, and then Andrew came through with the clutch three set win with the match on the line."
The Vandals will return to action on March 3 when they face LCSC and Eastern Washington in Lewiston, Idaho.
