MOSCOW, Idaho- University of Idaho senior wide receiver Jacob Sannon was named to the 2017 CoSIDA Football Academic All-America First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday. Sannon is the fifth Vandal football student-athlete to earn Academic All-America distinction since the award's inception in 1952, and Idaho's second first-team honoree.
 
He is just the third first-team Academic All-American in school history, regardless of sport, and the first since 1973. Football student-athlete Bruce Langmeade garnered Idaho's first such honor in 1970, followed by baseball student-athlete William Tomtell in 1973.
 
A native of Bradenton, Fla., Sannon earned an accounting degree last spring with a 3.91 grade-point average and currently holds a 4.0 GPA in graduate school as he works toward a master's degree in accounting.
 
He appeared in all 12 games for the Vandals, including 10 starts. Sannon posted career highs of 59 catches and 608 yards, ranking second on the team in each category. He recorded two games with double-digit receptions and two games with more than 100 yards. Sannon wrapped up his career with 125 catches, No. 13 in school history.
 
Sannon's award is the 29th Academic All-America honor in school history and the first since 2014. Of the 29 awards, 17 have gone to males, but Sannon is the first since 2010.
 
Idaho's previous Academic All-Americans in football are T.J. Conley (2008; second team), Rick Giampietri (2000; second team), Boyce Bailey (1983; second team) and Langmeade.
 
A first-team Academic All-District 7 honoree earlier this year, Sannon was also one of just 25 football student-athletes nationwide to earn the 1A FAR Academic Excellence Award.
