HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. - Idaho women's golf tied for 13th in the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate, played Friday through Sunday at Highlands Ranch Golf Club. The Vandals finished at 46-over, shooting 306 each of the first two rounds before improving to 298 on the final day.
"We played poorly this week," said head coach
Lisa Johnson. "Ultimately it all came down to putting and we struggled getting the ball in the hole. I was hoping we would adjust to the speed and slope of the greens more quickly than we did."
Sophie Hausmann led the way for Idaho, finishing tied for 24th at 7-over (75-75-73=223). Hausmann has finished in the top 25 of the last nine tournaments and 17 of her last 19.
Michelle Kim fired Idaho's lowest score of the tournament, shooting an even-par 72 in the final round to jump up the leaderboard and finish in a tie for 30th at 8-over (77-75-73=224).
"We've played a lot of golf in the last month and it may have caught up to us," Johnson said. "We'll use these next two weeks to prepare for our final fall tournament at Boulder Creek, a course we're very familiar with."
The Vandals wrap up the fall portion of their schedule Oct. 21-23, at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. The tournament is held at Boulder Creek Golf Club, just outside of Las Vegas, the site of the Big Sky Conference Championships. Idaho claimed the league title in record-setting fashion last year, winning by 10 strokes. Hausmann took medalist honors and Kim finished runner up. Hausmann shot a tournament-record 10-under, aided by a second-round 65 which matched her own single-round conference tournament record. Idaho shot a tournament-record 2-over as a team, including a single-round record 5-under on the final day.
