Box Score SPOKANE—The Idaho women's tennis team returned to action on Saturday. The Vandals made the short trip to Gonzaga, falling to the Zags 6-1. 

Gonzaga (4-2) started with the early advantage after earning the doubles point. The Zags took the No. 3 court, 6-0, for the first win and followed with a 6-2 win at No. 2. The No. 1 court was left unfinished with Idaho's Marianna Petrei and Lucia Badillos tied 3-3 with Gonzaga's No. 1 pair.

Idaho (0-2) fell into a 3-0 hole after dropping points on the No. 6 and No. 5 courts, respectively. Gonzaga clinched the match with Graciela Rosas' 1-6, 6-0, 6-1 win over Maria Tavares at No. 2. The Zags secured wins two more wins at No. 3 and No. 4.

Idaho's lone win came in a tightly contested match on the No. 1 court. Petrei, ranked No. 42 in the latest ITA rankings, won the first set 7-6(9)over Gonzaga's No. 1 Sophie Whittle. Whittle evened the match with a 7-6(4) win in the second. Petrei picked up the point with a 10-7 win in the super tiebreak.

The Vandals will begin Big Sky play next week, opening at North Dakota on Friday (Feb. 16). Idaho will round out the trip at Northern Colorado on Feb. 18.
