SOUTHPORT, England - Idaho rising senior
Sophie Hausmann wrapped up her trip to the 115th Ladies British Open Amateur Championship with an appearance in the match play portion of the tournament. Hausmann made the cut through two rounds of stroke play, before bowing out in the round of 64 in a playoff against Alessia Nobilio of Italy. The tournament is being played at Southport Old Links Golf Club and includes participants from 24 countries.
Hausmann, who is No. 53 in the latest World Amateur Golf Rankings, recovered from an opening-round 80 to shoot 74 in the second round of stroke play, Wednesday. She made par on her final 10 holes and moved up 46 spots on the leaderboard to place 61st in stroke play and sneak into the 64-woman match play segment.
Nobilio, No. 24 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, was even through two rounds of stroke play to place fourth. Hausmann pushed her to the brink, forcing a 19th hole before Nobilio took the match. Nobilio went on to win her second-round match as well and advance to Friday's round of 16.
Hausmann also advanced to match play at the 2016 Ladies British Open Amateur Championship and missed the cut in 2017.
Already one of the most decorated golfers to don the Silver and Gold, Hausmann will look to solidify her place in program lore when she returns for her senior season in 2018-19. Her career scoring average of 73.2 ranks second in school history and within reach of all-time leader Kayla Mortellaro's 72.8. Hausmann also ranks among career leaders in wins (four), top-10 finishes (10) and top-25 finishes (20).
