In winning, Dopke earned $531 to donate to charity in her name. She chose three very worthy recipients that hold special meanings for her.
Â
National Breast Cancer Foundation – "I chose the National Breast Cancer Foundation because my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and she is a survivor. She inspires me every day and I hold this charity near to my heart because of my mom and the many others affected by cancer."
Â
National Foundation for Teen Safe Driving – "I chose this charity because my brother was killed in a fatal accident and I cannot stress enough the importance of safe driving. It is important to instill in teens how to drive because my brother was a victim of a result of someone else's unsafe driving. His short but full life is always my inspiration to persevere and my hope in donating to this charity is that no other family will have to grieve the loss of a loved one due to a vehicular accident."
Â
YMCA – "I chose this charity because without my sport, I would not be the person I am today. Soccer, and being active, gives children a healthy outlet and can grant them many opportunities they never thought were possible. It enabled me to play soccer at the highest level while receiving an excellent education in medical sciences. My sport has enabled me to be a role model in my community and set an example of a person of good character who displays that this award is bigger than just myself."
Â
The Lead Award was intended for the student-athlete who consistently displayed all the qualities of a good leader, both on and off the field of play.
