Mikayla Ferenz and
Taylor Pierce are teaming up for the first time since March of 2019 after signing a contract with the Ringwood Hawks of the National Basketball League in Ringwood, Australia.
"I think it's a fantastic opportunity for two of the best three-point shooters to ever play college basketball to play together again," said Idaho Women's Basketball Head Coach
Jon Newlee. "It was such a unique experience having them both and being fortunate enough to coach them both. I know how much fun their Aussie coach will have down there with them."
This is Pierce's first professional contract and Ferenz's second.
"It's pretty surreal to me," said Pierce. It is something I have worked towards my whole career and to actually sign the contract was surreal. I am just thankful that I have an opportunity to keep playing basketball."
Ferenz currently plays for AB Contern of the Total League in Luxembourg. Currently Ferenz is averaging 24.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists per game, and 1.7 steals per game. AB Conterns season is quickly coming to an end with just three games left to play.
Ringwood's season will begin on April 18
th, with regular season games lasting until August 8
th.
"I can't wait to play with Taylor again," said Ferenz. "Not only do we get to share the court together, but we also get to share the experience with each other. Getting to see the world with my best friend is a dream come true."
Ferenz and Pierce, also known as the Splash Sisters, are two of the greatest players to ever play basketball at the University of Idaho.
"When we got the call and the opportunity was right in front of us, it was a definite yes from the get-go," added Pierce. "We are excited to be able to share the court together again, since we had so much fun together the last four years. We talk about it every day."
Last season the duo led Idaho to a regular-season conference title and two wins in the WNIT. Ferenz was named the 2018-19 Big Sky Player of the Year and averaged 22 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game during her senior season. Pierce averaged 19 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. Both players were unanimous selections to the Big Sky All-Conference First Team while Ferenz was also named the 2018-19 Big Sky Player of the Year.
The Spalsh Sisters not only found success on the court during their time at Idaho but in the classroom as well. Ferenz and Pierce both received multiple Big Sky All-Academic Team honors throughout their career. In addition, Ferenz earned the CoSIDA Academic All-American Player of the Year award last season.
Ferenz, a native of Walla Walla, Washington, is the all-time leading scorer in Idaho Women's Basketball history, having scored a total of 2,466 points during her four-year career as a Vandal. Her career point total is also a Big Sky Conference Record. Pierce is fifth on the list in all-time scoring, having scored 1,934 points during her Vandal career. Ferenz also holds the record for most points in a season with 749 a year ago. Pierce chipped in 646 total points during the 18-19 season, which is the fifth most points all-time in school history.

"Coach Newlee brought us together and is the reason we are friends in the first place," said Pierce. "Thank you to him for that and having the confidence in us and helping us become the players that we were here and are today. Both of us hope we can carry everything he taught us to the next level."
Now the Splash Sisters will reunite in Australia looking to smash more records.
"I never thought I would get the opportunity to play with Taylor again," said Ferenz. "Because we are similar players, I never thought a team would sign both of us. When Coach Mottin told me that he wanted both of us, I couldn't believe it. Coach Mottin saw that even though we have similar skill sets, we play together so well and gave us this amazing opportunity."
For Ferenz, signing a contract in Australia is extra special since her father, Chris Ferenz played in the same league.
"It means a lot to me to have the opportunity to play in Australia," said Ferenz. "It has been a dream of mine because my dad played there and had such a great experience. Also, I have had a lot of teammates from Australia and I am excited to reconnect with them!"
There is a lot of excitement building around the reuniting of the Splash Sisters in Australia. "I am most excited about experiencing Australia with my best friend and winning some basketball games," added Ferenz. The first chance for the duo to share the court again will be on April 18
th when the Ringwood Hawks take on the Eltham Wildcats.
"They are just great people and I am just really excited that they get the opportunity to reunite and do all the special things at the professional level that they did at the college level," said Newlee.
