MOSCOW, Idaho – Former student-athlete and proud Vandal, Trent "Buck" Cowan will take over as the new color commentator for Idaho Football Radio Broadcasts, as announced by Idaho Vandal Sports Properties.
Cowan takes over for Ryan Phillips who provided color commentary for the Vandals for the previous six seasons.
"I am ecstatic to be a part of the Vandal Radio Network for this upcoming season!" said Cowan. "Ever since I can remember I've cheered and followed Vandal Football. I had the honor of playing for the Vandals from 2013-2016, finishing my career with my teammates as champions in the Idaho Potato Bowl. I can't wait for this season to start and to analyze Vandal victories with you all. What a dream come true! Go Vandals!"
"We're excited to have Trent back and upstairs in the booth this season," said head coach
Paul Petrino. "He knows the program well, having played and won a Bowl game here, and will do a great job with Chris King on the call. I also want to say thank you to Ryan Philips for his commitment and dedication to the program. He truly embodies what it means to be a Vandal and I wish him nothing but the best in the future."
"I have had such a great time as a color commentator for Vandal football radio over the last six seasons," said Philips. "Working with the team and learning a new craft has been very rewarding and makes my decision to step aside a hard one. As hard as it is, I do so to watch my twin daughters play college volleyball which I am very excited about. I want to thank Dennis Patchin for training me and Chris King for all the help as well. I also want to extend gratitude to
Paul Petrino and the rest of the coaches as well as the
Joe St. Pierre and Becky Paul. When I'm not traveling to watch my daughters, I look forward to seeing everyone in the stands. Go Vandals!"
Cowan spent four seasons with the Vandals, capping off his career with a win at the 2016 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. He appeared in 48 games over four years but really stepped up as an upperclassman. Cowan caught 96 passes over his final two years, scoring 10 times and averaging better than 12 yards per reception.
