MOSCOW, Idaho -- The University of Idaho Track & Field/Cross Country program is ecstatic to add Loudan Hicks to the Vandal family next fall. Hicks brings national-level experience to Idaho and will make an immediate impact on the team.
Hicks is relatively new to the sport of track and field, joining in 2021 but that has not stopped him from developing into one of the best weight, hammer, and discus throwers in the country. During the 2022 season alone, he was the runner-up at the state championships in the discus, and qualified for the Nike Indoor National meet where he finished in sixth place in the weight throw and placed second at Nike Outdoor Nationals in the hammer throw.
Hicks boasts personal bests of 180' in the hammer throw, 57'11" in the weight throw, and 162'8" in the discus.
Outside of athletics, Hicks is a leader in his school and community. He represented Vinita High School as a delegate at Boys' State, volunteers at his local public library and assisted with the summer reading program, and serves as a counselor at the Boys and Girls Club for the Cherokee Nation in his hometown of Vinita.
"We are excited to have Loudan join the Vandal family," Idaho Director of Track & Field/Cross Country
Tim Cawley said. "Loudan is a talented thrower that fits in great with the team."
