Swim and Dive Wrap Up Day Two at WAC Championships

HOUSTON - The University of Idaho swim and dive team moved down to sixth after the second day of the Western Athletic Conference Championships on Thursday.

Idaho has 152 total points behind second-day leader Northern Arizona (316).

Day two started with the 500-yard freestyle prelims where Zoe Froe recorded the highest finish for Idaho, clocking in at 5:00.72 for 15th place. Freshman Sarah Shaffer finished 20th with a time of 5:03.14. Zoe grabbed a second-place finish in the consolation finals to add seven points to the Idaho team score while Shaffer finished fifth in the bonus finals.

The 200-yard individual medley followed with Bindi Pedersen finishing in 16th place (2:06.92) and Haylee Buyers placing 21st (2:07.71). In the afternoon session, Pedersen came in seventh in the consolation final while Buyers finished fourth in the bonus final.

In the 50-yard free prelims, Ella Haskins finished 18th with a time of 23.87 while junior Rylie Jones placed 25th (24.15). Jones posted a first-place mark in the bonus final while Haskins finished third.

The relay squad of R. Jones, Haskins, Natalie Crocker and Kaling Phung finished fifth (1:34.33) in the 200-yard freestyle relay.  
 
In diving, freshman Heather Hopkins had herself another impressive day, earning the top spot in the 3-meter dive consolation finals with a score of 291.65.

Emily Mack secured her spot in the finals after posting a third-place score in the 3-meter prelims. She scored 282.25 in the finals to place fourth and complete day two for Idaho.     

Tomorrow starts day three with the prelims scheduled to get underway at 8:30 a.m. PT for events in the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard free, 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard backstroke. The finals will follow in the afternoon session at 4:30 p.m. PT that will include the 400-yard medley relay.
