MOSCOW, Idaho – This weekend, multiple meets are in store for the Vandal track and field team.
Idaho will travel to California this Thursday for the Mt. San Antonio College Relays, the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach University, and the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific University. There are members of the team that will also travel to Spokane for the Whitworth Twilight Meet on Thursday.
Whitworth Twilight Meet
Four Vandals will compete on Thursday afternoon in running events such as the 800m, 1500m, and 3000m Steeplechase. Idaho will compete against Gonzaga, Eastern Washington, and Washington State, among other universities. This one-day event in Spokane starts at 3:40 p.m. with the Steeplechase.
Mt. San Antonio College Relays
In California, the Mt. SAC Relays will feature fierce competition from the top schools in the nation. BYU, California, Georgia, Arizona, Miami, and USC are all powerhouse schools with both men's and women's programs ranking in the top-25. USC highlights the competition with the No. 1 ranked women's program. Other top-25 schools attending are Arkansas, Houston, Iowa, Michigan, and Oregon.
Due to the elite field of athletes, the Mt. SAC Relays will feature several heats throughout the day as well as collegiate and elite heats. The elite heats are comprised of professional athletes and top-tier collegiate athletes. Six Vandals have earned a spot in the elite heats in their respective events:
Jemini Archer (100m),
Deyondre Davis (400m hurdles),
Lorenz Herrmann (800m and 1500m),
Katja Pattis (1500m and 3K Steeplechase), and
Tim Stevens (1500m).
Running events will start on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. with the women's 3000m Steeplechase. On Friday, the first field event will start at 9:00 a.m. with the women's high jump. Running events will fire off at 11:00 a.m. with the women's 4x100 relay. On Saturday the meet will resume with the women's hammer throw at 9:00 a.m. and the men's 100m at 3:25 p.m.
58 Vandals will compete throughout the three days, with 34 competing in at least two events. As of this week, 13 Vandals are ranked top-three in the Big Sky.
On the men's sprints side,
Deyondre Davis will compete in the 400m hurdles, where he currently reigns in first place in the Big Sky with a time of 52.22.
The distance squad is strong, represented by many top-three athletes.
Spencer Barrera will compete in the 400m and is currently ranked third in the Big Sky with a time of 47.74.
Zac Bright and
Tim Stevens will compete in the 800m where Bright is ranked first with a time of 1:50.81. Stevens is right behind in second place with a time of 1:52.10. Herrman try and stay at the number one position in the 1500m with a time of 3:41.93.
The 4x100 relay team of Archer,
Jon Watkins, Barrera, and Hering will compete and try to improve their time of 41.24 where they are ranked third in the Big Sky. In the 4x400 relay of Davis, Archer, Herrmann, and Barrera will compete where they are the top team with a time of 3:13.94.
Men's field events will see
Joseph Ruddell compete in the high jump, ranking third in the Big Sky with a mark of 2.07m.
Justyn Rogers will compete in the long jump where he is ranked third in the Big Sky with a mark of 7.25m.
Noah Culbertson will compete in the shot put where he is ranked second in the Big Sky with a mark of 17.34.
On the women's side, the 4x400 relay team of
Olivia Martin,
Camryn Crouch,
Lara Holzhauer, and
Prabhasha Wickramaraachchi is ranked first in the Big Sky with a time of 3:47.40. Pattis will compete in the 1500m where she is ranked first in the Big Sky with a time of 4:23.86.
Kelsey Swenson will compete in the 10,000m where she is ranked third in the Big Sky with a time of 33:21.11.
In field events,
Mia Sylvester will compete in both shot put and discus. She is ranked first in the Big Sky in the shot put with a mark of 15.64m and second in the discus throw with a mark of 44.80m.
Beach Invitational
26 team members will jump from one meet to another at Long Beach where they will continue to compete. The Vandals will compete Saturday starting with the women's long jump at 9:15 a.m. Running events will start at 10:15 a.m. with the women's 4x100 relay. Men's and women's relay teams are competing for a second shot at gold as well. Archer will compete in the 100m and Davis in the 400m hurdles for yet another shot at personal bests. The throws and jumps squads will once again compete in shot put, discus, long jump, high jump, and triple jump.
Bryan Clay Invitational
Friday evening,
Kelsey Swenson will compete against several other Big Sky Schools such as Montana State, Colorado State, and North Arizona State. Swenson will run in the 5000m which will start at 9:30 p.m.
